Having regard to the engrossing effect of the desperate struggle which is in progress on the Continent, it may be opportune to remind the electors of this, district that the privileges of citizen-; ship entail equal responsibilities. Among a free and progressive people there is sometimes a tendency to undervalue and disregard the many privileges which long years of struggle against retrogression have given us. The world but little knows nor Jong remembers the namc3 of the men-who in every age battled for the people's rights; nevertheless we owe it to them that we should take full advantage of the reforms which they accomplished.
