THE COUNTRY RESPONSE.

'.Roughly, £720 hasbccn gathered iii (hiring the operations at the meetings, but this renlly is but the beginning. Committees arc still canvassing the various districts, and when promised donations, and the value' of horses, produce,' etc., are calculated it is safe to assert that the country people of North Otago will havecontributcd well over £2llOO towards the patriotic cause. This is a line gift from a generous warm-hearted folk.
