LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
» liE A I'ATIIIOTIG CONTKIBUTION. To the Editor of "The Times." Sir,—l. notice a report in this morning's issue of your paper that an enthusiastic meeting of the Wai'tuki Gaelic Society was held in the 1 llakataramea •Hall on Saturday last, and that the Society had voted £l5O of the funds to. tho Patriotic Fund. This is not correct. The Gaelic Society have no funds. The amount is part of a trust fund belonging to a Pipe Band Fund, and in fairness to those who worked so hard for the Pipe Band Bazaar, and were the means of providing the lufndsome sum of about £220, which was set aside and earmarked for a Pipe Baud, a little explanation is necessary. The money has been lying in tho bank at Kurow for the past twlevc years, bearing interest, of course, and when the Government's call came for everyone to sacrifice every effort and money to help the Empire in this time of need, many thought it would be :i very fitting time to h'avo the whole of the Pipe Band money applied to the war fund, or for any patriotic purpose. To this end a public.meeting was called in the Kurow Hall, and it was resolved that a deputation wait on the trustees of this fund, and the Gaelic Society, with the wish .of the meeting that flic whole of the money be devoted Unconditionally as aforesaid. The Society, however, only resolved to grant £l5O. 'This, of worse, is very much against the wishes of the"public, who should havo all tho .say in tho disposal of the money.—l'am, etc,' •> V F. A. MUOO.
