A visit paid by the Customs officials to a building used by the Wellington Steaml Ferry Company at Eastlborne on Monday morning last, resulted in the; seizure of a quantity of paint, In consequence of the seizure informations navei Iften sworn by, Mr C. S, Nixon, Collector of Customs, and laid against Edward Goodwin and Fortescue Zohrab, charging, the latter—(l) That he was knowingly concerned in the fraudulent evasion of Customs duties during March last; namely, on certain paints, about" 3£ cwt. in quantity ;. (2) that between the 3rd and Bth March last he; was concern- • ed in unshipping from the steamer Neptune, of goods liable to duty, the duties for which had not nejh Paid or secured, namely, a ojuantity of paint,- In each case the informHot sues for „ penalty of £IOO, and defendant is called upou to appear at the Magistrate's Court on Friday. The tramp steamer. Neptune called at Wellington for bunker coal on the 3rd March last while on her voyage lrom Port iKembla to Fall mouth with grain. She remained at anohor in the stream ofl Kaiwarrawara till the morning of the Bth instant, and then proceeded to England. It is alleged that during her stay in port the paint mentioned was .transferred from the steamer to the pilot, and thence conveyed to Eastbourne. The Hon. J. A.
