THE TERRA NOVA.
LEAVES PORT CHALMERS.
Per Press Association. Dunedin, Nov, 23. The Terra Nova, which arrived, at Port Chalmers yesterday morning, left for Antarctic punctually at 2.30 p.m. to-day, A.half-holiday was observed at the Port, where an abundance of flage was 'displayed and all shipping was dressed. A vast crowd assembled on the George street pier, the Terra Nova men manned the rigging, and much hearty cheering was exchanged. The Terra Nova: was towed to sea by the Plucky, A procession down to the Heads was led by the training ship 'Amokura;' then followed the Terra Nova 1 with the Plucky alongside,; 'the 'defence steamer Lady Roberts, with Smyth (0.0. Otago'district) and officers in uniform.and ladies on board; crowded excursion steamers followed, and a long line of motor craft and sailing yachts 'brought .up the rear. The pilot was dropped at the Heads and .Mrs Scott, Mrs Evans, Mrs Wilson, and Mrs Wyatt, who travelled, down from port on tlie-Terr a Nova; handed into the tuR. Ladies on«M 1 > tug exchanged keepsakes and toes with the sailors for the/South, Outside,the Heads 'the,/Amokura and Lady Roberts fired /B&lutes of six guns. Ensigns were dipped and the tug casting off the T/rra Nova steered South, and thyimokura proceeded to the Blu(if The send-o3 was in every way fl great success. Captaiti/Scott, interviewed "before leaving' wished to thank the people for/their great kindness to him and his party. They had let them go about their business in their own 'way, He declined to say anything concerning the rival South Polar expedition from Norway. The expedition left 'full of confidence and in ex, cellent spirits. ■/'
