A sensation. was caused in town thii morning when it became known that Bigwopd, a well-known resident, had. 1 een arrested.on.charges of attempting .to shoot with intent and assault. The facts of the affair were outlined to Mr W. G, Kendrick, S.M., in the Magistrate's Court this morning; The. accused had beeri wanting to keep company with a young lady, but apparently 1 she would have nothing to do with him, Yesterday afternoon, as the lady was passing the building on which accused was employed, accompanied by a young man, he insulted her by calling her vile names, About half-past ,6 last evening he purchased a five-chambered revolver and cartridges. He then went to where the girl lived. On the door being opened by a lady, he pointed the revolver at her, She screamed out, saying,l am not Daisy (meaning her cousin, with whom accused was infatuated.) He thei\ went home, and on the police being communicated with,- Sergeant Egan and Constable Porieous visited his house, where they found him fully dressed, and in his coat pocket was a new five-chambered revolver, fully loaded. He was taken into custody. The inspector asked (or a remand and opposed the granting of bail. His .Worship remanded the accused till Tuesday next, and refused bail.
