THE TOWN HALL COMMITTEE.
The Committee appointed some time ago to canvass for subscriptions for the . 'lown Hall Fund met last evening, his Womhip tho Mayor (Mr 11.. Milligan) in the' chair. The Mayor said the Dill having now passed, it only rem ft ined to tho citizens to raise %ir subscriptions, and then tii'e project could bo moro definitely proceeded with. The socretary, Mr 0, W. Cooke, said th a t so far £4OO was definitely in sight, and a large numbor of probable ccntributors have yet to be seen. Considering the question of raising the balance of the money, it was agreed to collect the amounts promised at an early convenient time. As to the balance of the required amount the offers of the North Otago Amaleur Athletic and Cycing Club for a sports meeting on the 9th November, the Musical Society for tho " Eh>li " concert, nfld thp Boating C(ub fpr its opening afternoon were each accepted, and tho Mayor also mentlonod that the Garrison Band intended to hold an open-air concert In the gardens some evening presently. The suggestion was also made that (ho opening cf the new hall might be celebrated by the perforjin.n'e of a comic oper a by local amateurs on the new stage, but nothing definite was decided meantime,The question of a bazaar was nlto mentioned,-and it was dacidd to iri.l'e such an effort in May, .Tuna or .Tilly o) next year, and -(q Rsk the ladies to Voc-p t|tat in view.
