TRAFALGAR DAY CELEBRATIONS.
Uy Telegraph. Nelson, October 21. The Trafalgar celebration was a great success. The Governor was received, und escorted through the sleets, which were closely festooned with .(lags to Church Hill, where addresses were presented and speeches delivered by the Mayor tho Governor and Attorney-General, the liaml playing the National Anthem and Marseillaise, the people singing, tho former and cheering the King. Then the Governor ln.it! tlie fenndation stone of the Nelson Collet before a large number of spectators. The Bishop of Nelson opened these priceedings with prayer, and MiFell, as chairman of tlie Governors, and Mr Fowler, the principal, gaXc addresses on tlie hislcry and alms of the College, referring to Its successes. The architect (Mr Tumbull), of Wellington, was presented', and explained bis plans, and the Governor spoke, pointing out the advantages the British do: Wed from public schools, which had been introduced into the colony without some of the disadvantages of the OW Country. Ho was presented with a trowel and mallet, and laid the stone, after which the AttorneyGeneral delivered nn address. Ills Excellency was then entertained at luncheon at the College house. T.aler on there w a s a large assemblage in Trafalgar Park, 630 volunteers being drawn up In tho bncfc ground, tho proceedings being In connection with the Navy League. Nelson's signal, sent from Wellington, was down, and the ensign was lowered halfmast The Bishop of Nelson offered a pravcr, and the Rev. Mr M'Keo Wri c ht recited Kipling 9 recessional, and tho Governor gave an address on tho objects of the Navy League, Explaining that the objeTt was the pr<t.er,tion of the weak, and not I'ngolsm. The band ployed "The Death of Nelson,''' after which the British nnd French flags were raised together, and "God n g" was rendered. Alter this a review ol thfl troops took place—artillery, mounted and, infantry to
the mmiber o! 030—and Uio Governor highly.complimented them on the splendid muster and good work. In the even- • ing tho lire brigades formed a. torchlight procession, 'and* were inspected by Ills Excellency. Later, the Navy League met, and drank to the memory 0 t Nelson son, and cabled to the Navy League in .Londm: "Nelson, living honors, Nelson, Hie immortal." The proceedings Uiroughodt were a gront success.
