SCHOOL COMMITTEE SOCIAL AT GLENAVY.

The* School Committee social dance took place here last Friday night, and judging by tho attendance the Committee li&vo every reason to bo satisfied with themselves,' as the prize fund to which the proceeds arc to be devoted will be very materially benefitted, Dancing commenced shortly alter 8 p.m.,; Miss C< and Mr.Geo. Park (Glenavy) supplying excellent music. Mr David Williams acted as M.C, in his usual courteous and finished manner. Songs were rendered by tho following gontlemcn: Mr P. Fogarty, "Queen of the Earth ' (encored, and Mr A. Wixon, "Town of Oomaru" (oncored) f In his encore number'tho last-named singer had the mißfortune to encounter a lapsus linguae, and retired after singing but bno verse. Mr Jack Solomon danced a sailor's hprnpipo very heartily, his merry representation of the ioc-6-cle head frolic of tho old time tar coming in for appreciative applause. Mr T. Mead, a gentleman of histrionic abilities, also delight: ed the audience with a couple of recitations delivered with dramatic intensity. The supper interval wasn't the least enjoyable part of the promoters' pro l gramme, and of ctfurse th« good things dispensed rapidly disappeared. The committee in this, &s in other labors-, were most assiduous and painstaking, both themselves and their wives doing the honors well indeed. A special feature of the evening's enjoyment was the rendition by a batch of scholars of the well-known s come again n more."
