The return match of the Australians with Yorkshire opened in fine weather, but with a soft wicket. The attendance at the start was 5000. Jones, Cart r, and Armstrong stood out oi the Australian team and Wainwright displaced Whitehuad in the Yorkshire team. Darling won thctoss and sent Trumper and Hopkins to face tho bowling of Rhodes and Hurst. When Trumper bad made three he was finely caught by Hirst with one hand. One wicket for three. Hill succeeded, only to see Hopkins bowled by Hirst. Two for three. Darling filled the breach and the outlook soon became brighter. The partnership provided lively cricket. Dolli hailed freely, punishing Rhodes and Hirst with equal favor. Dunns; an association of 35 minutes lliey put up 74. Darling was the first lo go, being caught at thcwicjiols by Hunter.
