SKILFUL WORK BY SKILFUL FINGERS.

Only a few days ago, so to speak, the people of Now Zealand were cheering the warrior representatives of the suni tanned sons of India—the Australian Commonwealth Contingent of India's magnificent army. The dark-faced, bright-turbanned fighting men have gone, taking with tlnm the pleasantest recollections of colonial hospitality. To-day we have with us something to romind us that India is industrious as well as martial, something which tells us that if Indian a'ms have won a lustrous place on the scroll of warlike fame, Indian fingers have worked beautiful wonders in the peaceful field of artistic industry. We allude to the splendid display of Indian hand-worked goods now being shown at the Polytechnic, Thames street, Oamaru, The beautiful goods were all specially imported from India for exhibition purposes, and it may safely be assorted that no such collection ha» ever before been exhibited for the benefit of ladies wishing to beautify their homes, There are tablecloths,, large and small, mantel drapes, cushion and chair covors, piano soreeni. sofa covers, centro«pieces, an 1 U t, ii >i > 5 least, a range of ball and p«.;:.n dress materials. These goods will be on exhibition in our windows for a few days only, and we advise ladies nottonegleot the opportunity of inspecting them. For wedding presents, birthday gifts, etc, etc, these splendid goods are exceedingly well adapted, being attractive, rich, unique, and entirely out of tho common, and at a price within the roach of all.
