Referring to the letter received from the Otago Chess Club by the Auckland Chess Clab re the next Congress and which was published in this column last week the New Zealand Herald siys : To this a reply has not as yet been sent, probably because, as the enbjec 1 - is stated to be " beyond all controversary or argument," and again " beyond all argumenb or discussion," the clnb is at a loss what to say. The matter mast not, however, be taken seriously, as it is only an instance of one of these acts committed when feeling has been allowed to over* ride ones' jodgment. For a short time there is a glow of satisfaction at having delivered what Is presumed to be a home thrust. la a hfcle while, when some of the heat is evaporated, there is a growing conviction that possibly it was too strong. However, as stated before, there is no intention of taking the matter seriously. In a little while the feeling of soreness will have passed off. When the time comes for Auckland to extend a warm welcome to Southern representatives, none will receive a more hearty reception than the delegates from dago. Good prizes will be provided, and looal plftym will do their beat to prtvonb the , Soabh.tr nerj from owning them »w»y,
