In reply to questions, he said he objected to sinking his individual opinions upon any public question m order to catch votes. It was absolutely untrue that he got L"00 a year. That story w.is the fabrication of his loving friends. He was of opinion that the Upper House had become the receptacle of " old crusted Tories," and with the abolition of party government the Upper House could be abolished. He protested against the claims of poor men's sons, who had qualified for posi ions, being overlooked to make room for the sons of political supporters. Mr Sievwright received a unanimous vote of thanks and confidence, on the motion of tfr Chas Whyte, seconded by Mr J. Frew, jjnr., and a vote of thawks to tho chair closed tha meating.
