Dr Lenihan aa Roman Catholic Bishop of Auckland took plaoe at St. Patrick's Cathedral, Auckland, yesterday, the coneeoratiog prelate being Bishop CMmes, of Ohrisbchurch, and the aseietctbi prel*tea Bishop Gallagher, sf QoulWurn, and Bishop Verdon, <$■ Dunedin. The examination being finished, bhe bishop-elect was clothed with bhe tunic, etc The liaoies ended, bhe consecrating bishop received bhe Book of bhe Gospels opened, and with the assistant of the other bisheps placed it on the neok and Bhoulders of the elect. Nexb the consecrating bishop and bhe assisting bishops touched the head of the elect with both hands, e ying ''Receive thou the Holy Ghosb." The elect's head was then annointed and consecrated, and the crczier, ring, gloves, and mitre blessed at the offertory, and the new bishop retnrned to the high albar and made offerings Of two loaves, two lighted torches, and two small barrels of wine. Tha bishop received from his fellow - biqbopß the kiss of peao°. Prior to the "Te Deum" the bishop waa enthroned and the congregation blessed. Bishop Gallagher, m tbe course of hia sermon, s»id the ceremony waa a reproduction of the first conaecraticp of an apoatle after the ascension of our Lord. Millar d'a solemn "Mass m G," Romberg's "Te Deum," etc., were Bung by the choir, whioh was strengthened by Mr Arthur Towsey and members of the Liedertafel. The orchestra waß alao reinforced by some of the leading instrumentalists of the ci'y. An im posing procession of prelates and pries b, aver forty strong, left the presbytery prior to the oeremony, parsing through a guard of honor formed by the Hibernian Socieby ano other societies and notabilities, thence under triumphal arches into thcathedral. Preparations on a lavish scale were made for the fibbing decoration of the interior of tht cathedral. Arches bearing appropriate dßvtpea were erected at thr enbranos tp the oathedral and also a: the exit from the presbytery.
