THE PREMIER AND THE REV. F. W. ISITT.
TO THE EDITOR. Sir — Public opinion is a greab power, bub uuforbunately we have learned by experience thab it is not always on the side of righb and truth : far from it. In all ages, many of our noblest reformers have stood alone, have been as ib were, ahead of their times. In this century of ours it is just the same, and men who are tighting for a much needed reform are nob only sneered ab, but their siyings are exaggerated, mutilated, and twisted oub of all shape in a most shameful manner. The drink curse exists ; the law legalise^ it ; public opinion, as yet seems to side with it, and the very highest in authority use every means in their power to thwarb the honesb efforts of reformprs. One case, from amongst many, wib be quite sufficient to enable your readers to judge for themselves how unfairly the "drink question "is dealt with. The Woodville Examiner of July loth his the following : {< The Premier stated from his place in the House, in reply to a question, that the Rev. Mr Isitt had said that if a Royal Commission were appointed, he would withdraw a charge against a police inspector, and thab his only mission in life was to destroy the Government, and the Premier in particular. The Editor of the Examiner was present)' afc the interview between the Rev. F. W. Isitt and the Premier, and can vouch for the facb that the Mr fsibt did nob say any such thing. — I am, etc., LIBERTAS
