The Taviuni, from Fiji, brings nows of bho viait, paid by 11.M.5. Ringdove, with Sir John Thuraton, to tho South of tlio Solomon Inlands, last year b- ought under British protection. The Natives everywhere expressed tbeimolvea highly grateful at being brought under the protection of tho Queen, and submitted many important questions for lib Excellency « decisions. With the capabilities of tho islands Sir J. Tluu'ston i» very favorably improsavd. In a number of places the Natives arc htill ettpei'atitioua, hoatilo, and emiuontly savage, though there has boon a gre it change for the better within tho last few ycai'B. Arms are still distributed to the Natives, but arrangements havo been made to stop the practice by enforcing sovoro ponalticß.
