OAM ARU HARBOR BOARD.

The monthly meeting of tho abovo Board was held yesterday, when thoto wpro present Messrs Barr (chairman), Holmes, Allan, Finch, Reid, Mook, and Burbury. Tho minutes wore road and conBrmed, and tho outward correspondence read and approved. Correspondence on tho question of tho claim ngainst Mr G. lurnbull was conaidered. The agent of Mr Turnbull's family offered the powder stored in the Board's magazine in settlement of the claim, This was agreed to. It was decided not to reduce the watermen's fees. The secretary read correspondence, which went to show that it was the intention of the Tinviru Harbor Board to ha/e nil ballast put nut at soi. Mr Barr said he had received a paper from Timaru, from which he saw that much interest waa takon in the question of weeds being introduced in ballast. The secretary said it was intendod to have the ballast at Timaru taken out by their dredge to sea. Mr Burbury asked if they could compel tho putting out of ballast at sea. The Secretary said they might lose a ship or two if they insisted on its being carried out. Both himself and Captain Soirell had taken stops to eradicate the weeds which had shown themselves on tho reclaimed land. Messrs Holmes and Meek thought if care were exercised in the cutting down of woods au they showed themselves that would be sufficient. It was generally thought a most important question to keep all impoited weeds from seoding. Messrs Reid and Holmes referred to tho weed oiled the burr growing on tho reclaimed land, and said they bad known of it in tho colony for many years. It was a very bud weed, Accounts amounting to L28U Oa 10(1 wero passed for piyment,. Mr Wollnun wrote with referenco to fitting up tho dredge with a suction diedger, mid hoped aome arrangement would bo come to, Tho matter was left over in the meantime It was decided that after tho dredgo is put in repair she be brought to O^muru instead cf being left at Port Chulmors *s at one time intended. This was all the business, and the Board rose.
