Mr Perceval has proposed to Ministers that New Zealand and Victoria shall take joint action to urge the British Government to enforce the provisions of the Margarine Act, which is now a dead letter. He thinks the colonial butter trade would benefit if the Act were strictly oarried out. A death from cholera has occurred ab Cork. Mr W. R. Arbuthnot, chairman of the Bank of Australasia, ab a meeting of shareholders, threw blame on the fatal facility for floating loans in the past, and of the abnormal inflation in the labor and share markets in the colonies.
