I). British Lion's dam Darliug waß got by the worl -renowned Drow's Pnnoo of Wales (043, vol. I, C.5.8.), whioh horso was con sidered one -of the best stock-getters in tho world. He was by General (322, vo l . 1) out of I'arling by SampnoD, a'ias Logans Twin (741, vo). 1) by Lofty (455, vol, I), winner of tho first prizo and silver medal at Glttigow. This proves British Lion to be dosoended from the best strains of blood iv Sootland or the Colonies, Duohess 111, the dam of British Monaroh, is by bir Colin, grand-dam Duohess I. importod from Victoria, by Westhorne, imported from Sootland. Uuchois I. has boon suooessful as a prlzofcaker both as a dry and biood mare. Duohess 111 hai taken about fifteen first prizes at tho Taieri, Dunedui add fokomairiro Shows. Bir Colin was imported from Sootland by the late Mr Gcorgo Booklcis, in 1870, and wai got by tho famous horso Sampiou ono of tho beat stock-getter* in Sootland, many of his stock, including mares, having been sold at L2OO and upwards, amongst which was the famous Knkerra maro (Colonel Floming'u) which gained many first prizes, being lirsc as a yearling at Renfrew, Johnston, fiarrhcDcl, Maryhill and Glasgow ; as a two yearold iho was first at the same plaocs ; as a throo-yoar-old sho was first at Glasgow und Maryhill; and as a four year old was fi rot at tho Highland Sooioty's Show at Inverness, Sir Colin's dam Joss was owned by Mr Thomas Young, Loohead, and from her he bred four entires. Joss's sire, the wellknown horte old Hir Colin, was never beaten in Sootland, gainod tho Glasgow premium, and tho namo year gained the L4O premium at the Highland Society's Show at Kolso. Sir Colin gamed first prize a« a yearling and two-year-old at all tho shows, also the lirst at Paisley a few days before being shipped, and second at the Taieri Show in 1873, and his stook aro second to none in Otigo, It will bo thus seen that British Monaroh is deeconded from the best Clydesdales on both sidoo, and cannot but commend himself to breeders of pure stook, Good paddooks provided, Every oaro taken but no responsibility.
