A SLEEPING CAR EPISODE.
" Mr and Mis Whiffin were on their wiy to tlie Hot SpiiDgs, where Mr W. intended to get iciof for his rheum itism ia the baibs. I n leaving home Mrs W. prepared for nn emergency by taking must ltd for plais'ots, wifcli which any pains incident to the fimguo of railroad travel might he iclieved. At a wayside station a drunken travel ling man boarded the train, and was put to bed in tho I erth next to Mr and Mrs W. by the steward. Shortly after Mr W. woke up with a dreadful '-titch in hia side. j,ike n good, dutiful wife Mrs W. arose and went to the l.iv.iioiy to make a strong, extra strong, niusta r d plaister with which to lelieve the pain of her liege lord. " On her return she pulled tho wiong curtain aside and placed the plaister upon the 8tom«ch of the senseless, drunken drummer. Then she went to the lavatory, washed her hauds, and returned to her berth, petting into the light section and finding Mr W. nsleep. 'The pliister has relieved the pain/ Raid iho good wononu ; nn.l with that thought on her mind she fell asleep. Nothing disturbed the sleepers except the rattle of the wheels jumping rail joints for some minutes. Finally a loud gronn was heard, then these words : ' Oh, my stomach, my st-o m-a-c-h ; oh-h-h !' Th-s was followed by • I'll never touch another drop, as long ns I livo ' 'h, it's burning a hole in me, oh-h-h !' I'm dead 1' The ex chimation wus topped off by the mu.s. turd pltuhter being thrown out the aiatc of the car. 'J ho steward then grabbed the inebriate and sho k him until ho «wokc. During the first stages of sen Mbilny, he muttered : « Oh, my aiomucli is gone, gone !' "
