The Emperor of Austria, after inspecting the British squadron, now on a visit to -he Bay of Fuirae, on the Adriatic, assured Admiral Sic Anthony Hoskins, of the flagship Victoria, that in the event of war he hoped to have the British on his side. The following aro the latest quotations for the principal sivcr mining shares : Broken Hill Proprietary, LlO 8s ; British, L 2 4s ; Central?, L 5 10s ; South, L 5 5s 6d ; Block No. 14, L 6 6s ; Block No. 10, Ll4 10a ; Junctions, LI 19s. Owing to the satisfactory development of the mine, the directors of Scottys Company, of Coromandel, have decided to ofter the first issue of reserved shares to the present shareholder. Fifteen thousand of the shares have already been applied foy out of a total of 20,000. Applicatious close on tho 7th July.
