D. J. Bignall, who intended to contest the Te Aroha seat on the Opposition ticket, has retired, feeling th.it none but a Government supporter has a chance in the district at present. The t;vo remaining candidates (Sir W. Buller and Colonel Fraser) are Government supporters, bub Mr Fraser, being a local man, is thought to have the best chance. He announces that he will travel through the constituency, but will not address the electors, as it is only a short time since he did 30 at the general election. Sir \V. Butter spoke here to-night, and received a vote of: nanks. It is said that MrAllen'shtesupportersare likely to help Sir Walter out of a spirit of retaliation against Mr Fraser, on whose petition Mr Allens election was lately declared void.
