AUCKLAND. June 24

A slight shock of earthquake occurred this morning at 11. Direction north to south. It lasted 30 seconds. John Henry Baulf, publisher of the Observer, was committed for trial in regard to an alleged libel respecting Hugh Shortland, solicitor, for which John L, Kelly, the editor, is already committed. The earthquake of this morning was not felt at Rotorua, but was felt through all the other districts south of Auckland, and alsoat Northern Wairoa, in the north. At Raglan the natives heard a loud report seaward, which favors the idea of a submarine explosion oft the coast. At Cambridge the natives rur.hed out of the Native Lands Court, and at Ctahuhu the children of the public school were dismissed. In Auckland the damage to public and other buildings was trifling.
