Aa to finance ho aaid the debit in the laud fund was L45.0Q0, not taking into consider ation in calculating tho surplus of L#(i,oflo, beoauso it had been greatly atfootod by this yoar'a operations and would probably disappear by tho end of the year, The Government had oommenuod the year with over a million o! loan money in hand,

but tho expenditure during tho Mm 6 months (?) had boon undor L 150.000, so that the promiso to taper off was being carried out. Referring to the Railway Coromiasionora ho taid they descrvod tho best thanks of tho whole colony for tho firm action taken in regard to the strike, as it prevented a groat trooble becoming greater, and thoir own employees losing thoir posi* tionn, Ho pointed out that recently great concessions had been mado in tho ratoa and freights, and eaid moro would bo mado from timo to timo as circumstances warranted. Aftor answering a number of questions ho wag accorded a voto of thanks and oonfi* donco.
