SHEEP.

MKIUNO.S. In the liiiu-combing section there w.is but one exhibitor, namely, Mr Alexander J J3ruco Smith, of Fairlio Creek, and ho, with as fine a lot of sheep as evor graced a show pen, took all the prizes. Wo would have liked to have seen, however, competition in this section of the Show, and local flook owors ought to make Mr .Smith fight for what he wins at future shows. This in the second year he hug exhibited at Oamaru, and on both occ t v hiona he has "swept the board." Mr J. Button and Mr G. Gardiner had a hard struggle right through all the sections in strong combing, and tho contest was very evenly balanced. Mr Girdinor secured '3 firsts, 5 seconds, and .'3 highly commended tickets ; while Mr Borton scored both champions and 4 firsts, 3 seconds and 6 highly commendecls. They were a capital lob of sheep, and just tho pick of their owners' Hocks.

LEIOfcSTKKS. Leicester's did not bring quito so many s,heep into tho yards as laab year, but tho quality w.ts every whib as good an waa ever yet exhibited. The exhibitors wero the Hon. M. Holmes, Mr John Reid, Messrs Little Bros., Mr It. 11. Parkor, Mr A. Murdoch, and Mr E. Monlovo. All the sheep wore in iirst-class order, Me Murdoch's, however, haying been exhibited at three shows already thia season, were not looking so well as wo have Hoen them. For tho best ram in tho yard seven tine specimens — moat of them champions — came forward, and Mr M'Korcher had great difficulty in coming to a decision as to the animal he would award the rod ticket to yesterday. Tho character of the wool on Mr Holmoa' exhibit was better, but 'for symmetry, form, and style Mr Reids exhibit could nob be passed. Right through this section of tho Show the premier place was well and keenly, contested for, but tho Hon. Mr Holmes took tho load and secured the principal prizes. To show that all the judges are nob in unison as to tho ideal stamp in Leicester^ it has only to be noted that some sheep taking firab phecs in Timaru and Chriatchurch wero entirely " out of it" yestorday. Bub when all the sheep are of such uniform excellence it is nob i dillicnlb matter for one man to piss over another man's fancy. Tho scoring for prizes was as follows : Mr Holmes, 5 tir.shs and champion ewe, 5 seconds, and 1 third ; Messrs Little Bros., J first, 2 seconds, and o thirds ; Mr Reid, champion ram and best 4-tooth ram, -md 2 thirds ; Mr Alexander Murdoch comes well up with a first, a second, and two thirds. Mr M. Holmes' yearling m>o is deserving of special mention, there not being a bettor specimen of the breed in the y.ird.

UACOLN.s. Again in this class tho Hon. Me Jlolmea outstrips tho other competitors— Mr Mculovo ami the New Zealand and Australian Lwid Company, Moer.iki. Mr Holmes, besides scouting both champions, has been awarded eight firsts, six seconds, and two thirds ; Mr Menlovo secures, and the Now Zealand and Australian L-ind Company secure, 5 points each. Mr Holmes' yearling ram was a very fine sample of the breed, and showed himself a well-built, nicely handled animal.

KOMM'A" MAKSII. This hardy class of sheep wa«j wol| i-epreaontod by Messrs Holm«s and Uoid, but the Litter secured all principal prizes. List year Mr lleid was tho only exhibitor, and the Jtomney Marsh was not ho interesting a class. 1 his year Mr Holmes meets him in two seetiona, and secures a highly commended, and Mr Iloul all the other prizes.

OTIIKR.S. There wore no entries in Downs, and in Bhorn Sheep Messrs Little Bros, wero ■•i warded the only prizo for a lino wellbalanced pair of Liecostor ewes. Under the Extra Stock heading Mr JJ. R. Parker, of Klophanb Hill, Waimato, exhibited a class of snoop which cannot but bo reckoned as profitable as could bo bred— namely— a cro&s betweon a morino owe and a Liecestor ram, producing a lino qu-ilifcy of mutton with a capital fleece or wool. In the northern part of Canterbury thi.s cross h.«s bocomo established in so mo places as a distinct brood, and in Chriatchurch they top tho marked for mutton regularly. Mr Parkor received a commonded for his sheop. Eugliah Liocestcrs are not very well known iv this part of tho colony ; bub Mr Monlovo'a exhibits attracted a good deal of tho attention of flock-owners, and doubtless by anobher year Mr Monloro v/ill not have it -ill his o<vn vmv at futura ehowu. In fat ohcop Mr CUurlca

look the fed and blue tickets with tWd tone potis of crossbred wothors. Mr Norman Lane's exhibit of fat shoop fib for refrigerating purposcM whh unfortunately disqualified on account of two mothor owos being in tho pen- For fab lambs Mr Peter Aitch.iaon secured first with ri capital lot, and Mr N. Lauo was pocond. Tho following m tho prize list : HOKSKB THOKOKOIIHUKDS. Judge : Samuel Indur, Nm>cby. Stowards: J). JJorrio, C. Todd, and if. 15, Taylor.
