The Native Miniotor informed Mr Barren that the Native Department had not yet been abolished, as there was still work which it alono could carry through successfully. Tho cost of the Department had, however, been materially reduced. ►Sir Goorgo Grey waa informed by the Colonial Socrotary that an opportunity would be given to discuss tho question of federation on Tuesday next, when the Government would submit a resolution on the subject. The Government, at Mr Wilson's instance, is to sco if any stops can bo taken to enable tho Property Tax Commissioners to call upon banks and companies trading in New Zealand to furnish a return (for property tax purposes only), whowing each dopositor and tho amount of his or her deposit hold by such bank or company, and to enable them to call upon tho banks to publish a list of unclaimed deposits. At tho eamo time they make tho promiao conditional by remarking tiiat there aro considerable difficulties in tho way. v
