THE DUNEDIN CASUALTY.
(BY TELEGRAPH.) Dtjnedin, May 20. At the inquest Mrs Vivian, in describing what she witnessed, said Mra Finch I. id juat eat down at a table crocheting a liitle boot, when she heard a dreadful noise, and the room was then in perfect darkness, She rushed out to the landing and called her daughter to come out quick, but she heard no sounds. She wont into the next room, but there waa a large hole in the roof there also, and she oould not stop there, so she eat on tha landing. Whon she went back to the room ohe saw others there. She saw Mrs Finch lying in a pool of blood, wilh blood trickling down her face. William Barnes, in his erldencp, said he had not much experience of blasting at those works. He only continued a practice which prevailed before he went there. After the blast he told Rodgers be must hare put in too much powder. He was too frightened at the result of the blast to move, and he shortly afterwards went homa without inquiring what damage had been done. Rodgers, in evldencp. said he II 11I 1 ad worked about 40 years at blaaiing, but this was the first time he tad done so in a town. He might have pnt a little more powder than the specified quantity, in the hole, but nothing to speak of. Tbare waa nothing to measure the powder with. The Inquest waa adjourned till the 27th.
