Bmainess Notices. TO TRAVEL THIS SEASON IN THK OAMARU AND SURROUNDING DISTRICTS, The Purebred Clydesdale Stallion LORD LYON (Late Tawhaio, vide Stud Book). LoRD Lyon is a bright bay, rising 4 years, with black points, stands 17 hands high, with plenty of bono and hair, feet of the most durable kind, and superior in action to moat draught horses. Lord Lyon is by the celebrated horse Young Banker, whose pedigree and performances are so well known that it is unnecessary to. dwell upon them here. Lord Lyon's dam is the well-known mare Maggie Lauder, imported from Victoria by Mr George Aitkenhead j sire Lord Lyon ; dam by the celebrated horse Ben Lomond. Lokd Lyon took third prize as a yearling in Christchurch, and last year he took second prize in Oamaru as a three year old. These were the only times he was shown. GRATIS is a bright bay, with black points, and stands sixteen hands three inches" high. He was got by Gratis (imported) out of Miss Rubens. This splendid animal was bred in New South Wales, and is also well known in Victoria, where he had mnny admirers. The dam of Gratis is a well bred, fast trotting mare and the winner of many fast trotting matches. Gratis was imported from Melbourne by Joseph Packman, Esq., at considerable expense, and was selected personally by him from among some of the finest horses of his class. Ho is half brother to Haricot, the winner of the Melbourne Cup, half brother to Left Bower, winner of the Caulfield and Ballarafc Grand National Steeplechases, and is related to several other brilliant performers on the Australian turf. Pedigree : BIKDC'ATCHER, by Ladykirk (imported), dam Brunette, by Athos (imported), dam Mr Joseph Harper's celebrated mare, The Nun, dam of Rollo, The Monk, Amateur, and other wellknown horses, the winners of our greatest steeplechases. Birdcatcher has several strains of the Melbourne, Orville, Irish Birdcatcher, and other fashionable blood, together with two distinct crosses of the Arab ; so that his speed and staying powers must be undeniable, and when taken together with his great size, bone, and quality, he must get what is now needed, superior Carriage and Cross-Country Horses, as well as Race H orses.
