Haweka, June 4.

Major Atkinson met about 23 settlers <»t Rahota yesterday, relative to native affairs. The remarks made were merely a repetition of the general statements made before, which went to show that the seUlers were subjected to petty annoyances, but no one anticipated anything in the meantime of an outbreak. Major Atkinson said tha Bottlers ia the native districts uufortuuately must expect a little annoyance, but he sympathised deeply with the settlers, and atronuly condemned the removal of the constabulary as tending to intensify the delusions of the natives that the land was coming back to them. He would do what he could to get a better policy of protection ia the district,
