Melbourne International Exhibition, 11th April, 1881. To J. Cosmo Newbery, F-sq., Superintendent of Juries and Awards. Sir— According to your institutions wo have made a practical test and thorough examination of the following sewing machines, viz , tho Bradbury, Grimme Nabalis, Wheeler and Wilson, Jones nnd Co., Johnson, Clark and Co., Wortheim, and the Davis, and the remits of our experiments aro Bet forth in Ihe tabulated statement attachod. We find thafc the Bradbury (Cramer withdrawn), Grimme Nabalis, Wertheitn, and Jones, all of tho Singer type and similar in construction, and should be classed in the same order. The Wheeler and Wilson differs in construction, but the results of our experiments are similar to the former named. The Standard, of Messrs Johnson, Clark, and Co., is the only machino submitted (except the Davi*.) with a radial shuttle movement, and therefore worthy of the consideration of the jury. As regards the Davis, we cannot but agree with the jury^that it is very superior to any of tho others, nnd went through every test

to our entire satisfaction. We therefore beg to recommend that the machines bo placed in the following orderFAMILY MACHINES.
