Melbourne, Jan. 28. The Geelong Cup was run to-day, and was won by Progress. The Melbourne banks have reduced their rate of interest on deposits to 3 per cent. The following Exhibition awards aie announced to-day : Firsts — Miss Annie Wilson, of Dunedin, for specimen of English modern point laoe ; A. Moore and Co., Christchurch, for wheat, etc ; Royse, Stead and Co., Christchurch, for 12 samples of cereals. Seconds — Dr Hector, for geological maps ; Miss M'Tavisb, of the Thames, for specimens of needlework from New Zealand flax ; Marshall and Copeland, of Dunedin, for malt and barley. Thirds — Board of Education, Napier, for school apparatus; Professor Yon Haast, for geological report ; Mrs Jessie Logan, of Dunedin, for lace work \ J, and E, Paul, Marlborough, for barley; Thomas Surman and Co., of Tnveroargill, for malt ; J. Bycroft Audley, of Auckland, for biscuits. Fourths — Walter Deverell, Invercargill, for specimens survey drafting ; A. and W. J. Spreat, Wellington, for map of Otago j Miss M. F. A. Jones, of Nelson, for point lace. Fifths — General Mueller, Hokitika, for map of Westland ; Charles O'Neill, Wellington, for plan of Wellington ; and Almao, of Dunedin, for hats.
