NEW SOUTH WALES. Sydney, Jan. 20.
In the Assembly a Supply Bill for one month was introduced. A long discussion took place on the proposals included in the Bill. £16,500 was awarded by the arbitrators in the case of the Melbourne Creek Copper Company. The item immigration was allowed to pass, upon the pledge of the Treasurer th'it no money would be expended until the Committee had an opportunity of disj cussing the whole questiou on its morits. A dinner was given by the Chamber of Commerce to the Conference yesterday, Mr Watt in the chair. Mr Berry in a speech stated, in speaking of Victoria, that if the colonies claim her as a sister, they must treat her as such : they must realise what her circumstances and future will be. Let me request you to ask yourselves what other future is in store for Victoria than of becoming the manufacturing centra of the colonies. Why should not Victoria manufacture goods to meet their requirements, the same as Manchester, Liverpool, and Yorkshire ? If so, then, why should we not receive in the same spirit all the products which the soil and climate of the other colonie* pro duce in abundance, for which Victoria would be an excellent market. If, before I die, the Australian colonies might be a federated body, humiliating none and benefiting all, nothing will enable me to go with greater resignation than the ac complishment of that object. Mr Dick ' mentioned that it had been suggested that the alliance of the colonies might now be found practicable. He might point out to them that in New Zealand there were once separate provinces, which were now united. He had no doubt the same might take place with all the Australian colonies. Sir H. Parlces' speech traa not particularly significant. At Newcastle a further batch of New Zealand immigrants arrived yesterday by the Sophia Luhrs from Wellington. Dis satisfaction exists among the miners. It is reported that a delegate meeting will be held on Saturday to discuss matters con nected with the present state of the local trade. The miners sent a notice of motion to the district asking for an aggregate meeting of all lodges to discuss the same subject to-morrow. The Parnell Defence Committee decided I to send a cablegram to Dublin on Tuesday remitting the sum of L2OO.
