Nominations for the New Zealand Grand National Steeplechases to be sent to the Hon. Sec, Chriitchurch, on or before SATURDAY, the 26th APRIL, at 8 p.m. The Weights to be declared on THURSDAY, the Ist MAY. Aooeptanoes, with Sweepstakes, to be sent to the Hon. Sec. on or before 8 p.m. on SATURDAY, the 17th MAY. The Steeplechases will be run under the Revised N.Z.G.N.S. Club Rules, copies of which may be obtained of the Hon. Sec.

GENERAL RULES. No person allowed to enter a horse unless he be a subscriber of at least £1 Is to the fund, which must be enclosed with the entry. All Entries and Acceptances must be made under sealed cover, and contain entrance money, sweepstakes, name, age, description, and pedigree of horses, and colors of riders. A penalty of Two Soys will be enforced on any Jockey riding in wrong colors. Note — As some misconception appears to have arisen about the weights in the Grand National Handicaps, it may be *as well to state that no weight will be under 10 stone, but that 12 stone 71bs is not necessarily the highest weight in the Handicap. The Coal now being raised is of a very superior quality, being from the deep workings, and the Company in placing it in the market at such a reasonable price, feel every confidence in securing the support of Householders, Mill Owners, and all Coal Consumers.

A trial of the Coal is only necessary to establish the fact of economy in using it as also in the saving of labor, in its not making any soot, or dirt of any kind.

Good quality slack for Engines, Brick* makers, Ac., fat 7s per^ton at the pit

All orders for coal forwarded to the Depots at Timaru, Oamaru, or to the Manager at Shag Point, Palmenton, will receive prompt attention. ma 9
