CHRISTCHURCH. May 1.
The reoeipts of the steam tug Lrttelton daring the last month exceeded the expenditure by L 64. Mr £. G. Wright u a candidate for Mr Wason's ieat at Coleridge. Goo. Hart ia the other candidate. There eeemi to be little prospect of the immediate appointment of a Resident Magistrate at Lyttelton, and the Major of that town talked, at the Harbor Board to-day, about an indignation meeting. The postage of the Harbor Board's debentures from here to England amounted to L7O. The report of the committee on the Southbridge school cobbing case was brought up at the Education Board today. It was adverse, and a resolution wae> moved to dismiss Edwin (the master), which was negatived in favor of an amendment censuring him. It is probable that the weights for the Grand National will not be published tonigiit, as Mr Lance, the handicapper,.is out of town. The departure of the Stadt Haarlem has been postponed till Monday. She leaves the wharf at 3 o'clock, and proceeds direct to sea.
