DEATH OF A NOTED BREEDER.
Late British files bring the intelligence of the death of Mr T. C. Booth, of Warlaby, one of the mo3t noted shorthorn breeders in that kingdom.. The Edinburgh Agricultural Gazette says that Warlaby having long been regarded as the head-quarters in the shorthorn world, the late Mr Booth had many visitors, especially from foreign lands. Very high prices, often a long way into the four figures, were frequently offered for animals there. In some cases the long purses of the foreigners succeeded in securing a few of the flowers at Walarby. Still Mr Booth's devotion to the noble art of shorthorn breeding, his earnest desire to preserve, and, if possible, increase the prestige which his forefathers attached to the place and the herd, accounted for his refusal of numerous tempting offers. It is well-known that many years ago he was self-denying and bold enough to decline an offer of 8000 guineas for eight heifers, at a time, too, when the four figures were more rarely reached for single animals than they are now. Mr Booth has for several years been a prominent member of the Royal English Agricultural Society's Council, of the Smithfield Club, the Shorthorn Society, the Yorkshire Agricultural Society, and other public institutions. At the late meeting of the Council of the Shorthorn Society he was elected vice-presi-dent for this year,
