LAND IN CEYLON.

At a sale of Crown land* held at Kandy laat month tome high prices were realised for allotments of land suitable for coffee planting. The total area sold was 3067 acres, and the gross sum realised was L 32,358, or about 10 guineas an acre. The highest price per acre was L 23 81, paid for an estate of 157 acres in Dikoya, at an altitude of 6000(1. abore pea lereL For an estate of 140 acres in Bogawantalawa, situated 5000 ft. above the level of the sea, L 3350 was paid, being mi average of L 22 10s per acre ; and another allotment of 274 acres in the same district realised Ll9 81 per acre. The land is described as " heavy Crown forest land, drained by numerous springs and streamlets, and situated at nn altitude of from 4300 ft. to 6600 ft. aboTe the level of the sea." The results of the sale are very gratifying to the phuting coraniuuity im the public in general. Higher prices have •eldomorneverbeen given for Crown lands, and this fact is regarded as an indicatiom of the confidence in the future prosperity of coffee planting and other agricultural pursuits in Ceylon. During the first three weeks of October 13,80 Ocwt. of coffee, 81,4501b. of cinnamon, 9194 cwt. of cocoanut oil, 2300cwt. of coir. 19,8191b. «f cinchona, and 13,7601b. of tea were exported from Colombo and Galle, principally to London. — Times.
