NORTH OTAGO BENEVOLENT SOCIETY.

The usual monthly meeting of the Committee vm held last night. Present — Messrs Falconer (chair), Milligan, Otterson, Kerr, M'Farlane, Collis, Greenfield, Hassell, Steward, Mollison, N. Fleming, Gibbs, and lionayne. The minutei of the last two meeting! were read and confirmed. The following report was read :— Oamaru, Feb. 3rd, 1870. The Committee, North Otago Benevolent Society. Gentlemen, — I have the honor to forward the following report for th« month of Janu> ary, 1879. There are four children remaining in the Institution. Nine domestic servants have been admitted into the Institution during the month. AH, with the exception of two, hare obtained situations. Two hundred and eight Government immigrants have been received into the' Depot, iftll pf whom have obtained employment. I herewith forward abstract ration return for the month. I have, etc., Almikd Hbsketh. A letter was read from the District Land Registrar, intimating that the Crown grants for sections granted to the Society by the North Otago Benevolent Societies Incorporation Act, were ready for issue, on the fees, L 9 10. s, being paid. i Mr Milligan reported that the lowest .tender for Mrs Black's cottage, L 72, had been accepted.

On the motion of Mr Steward, it wh j resolved that the Secretary write to the j manager of the Benevolent Institute, Dunedin, asking that Institution to reeqive Mrs Morrison as an inmate, this { Society to pay fof her maintenance ; and failing the Institute noceeding to th# proposal, that an emergency meeting be "Forthwith called to take the ease into further consideration. The Visiting Committee to be requested to see that the woman 'fa owed for in the meantime. A deUiUd report from the Visitinp , O-unmittee was read, and after amendment adopted. The Secretary was ordered to prepare | \ relief directory. The accounts certified to by the Visit nig Committee, amounting to L 79 16s, were passed for the payment. On the motion of Mr Kerr, seconded by Mr Steward, it was unanimously resolved that the salary of the Secretary be increased to L4O. Some further business of a routine nature baring be«n disposed of, the meeting terminated.
