GISBORNE. January 18.

The Cook County Council have written to the Government asking their advice under the following circumstances : — At the time of the election there was only one Returning Officer for the whole County, instead of one for each, appointed. Several other irregularities also existed, tending to vitiate the whole of election. The Government has promised to make a survey of the haibor immediately, to enable Sir John Coode to report.
