THE CHAMPION RACE MEETING. (PER PRESS ASSOCIATION'S SPECIAL WIRE.)
The Champion meeting was held on New Year's Day, for the Champion Stakes, three miles, nine horses contended. Bosworth showed a good deal of temper at the start, and caused some delay. Vnican went to the front directly they got away, Wellington and Warlock being close on him. Calamia was very slow on his legs. After going nearly a mile Wellington passed Vulcan and led past thd Stand, where Warlock and Vulcan were together, and soon after the former cleared away from Vulcan. Wellington, Warlock, and Vulcan, ran in that order round the far turn and along by the abbatoirs, Tim Whifflar was beaten off, and Calamia was Hearing the first division. In the straight, Warlock, under the whip, struggled np to Wellington, but Murphy just moved on his horse and he shot away half a dozen lengths with scarcely an effort. Wellington won rery easily. Warlock was second. Bis*orth, who came well at the finish, was a good third. The others same in straggling a good deal. Time — smin. 34?secs. Pioneer won the Hurdle, South Hamilton the Two- Year-Old Stakes, Acoutle the LI OO Plate, and also the Midsummer Handicap, Lonehand (with 123t bib) the Steeplechase, and Tidal Wave the Three-Year-OM Handicap.
