General Holiday.— lt will be noted by an advertisement in another column that, in response to a requisition signed by a large number of business firms, the Mayor invites the citizens to observe Thursday next' *s » general holiday, being the occasion of the •tcenlechaae meeting.

(MajARU Haubor Board. — A special meeting of this Board is called for Friday morning, nt 10.30 o'clock.

No. 1 Company Oamaru Rifles.— The half-yearly meeting of thig company ia called ■ for Friday evening, At 8 o'clock, at the Volunteer Hall.

I Oamauu Grammar School Cadets.— Lottora of appointment havo beon received of the undermentioned officers, viz. :— Honorary Lioufc. E. Howttt, and honorary Sub-Lieut. W. Todd.

Coursing. — Entries for the Sapling Stakes to bo run for to morrow, must oe made by 7 p.m. to day (Tuesday), at the Royal Hotel. The (haw will take place immediately after tho closing of the ontry.

Oamaru Citizen Cadets. — The annual .meeting of the members of this corps is called for to-morrow evening, at the Volunteer Hall, at 7.30 o'clock, for the purpose of electing afficers, and the transaction of other general business.

N. 0. A. and P. Association,— Member* of the Committee of this Association aro reminded that a general meeting, for inspection of show ground aites, appointment of judges, &c, is called for this morning, at 11 o'clock.

Oamaru Christy Minstrels. — A meeting of the committee was held last evening at Karle's dining-rooms, at which it > was decided to give an entertainment in aid of the funds of tho company, in about five weeks time. Tho programme was arranged, and includes some choice noyeltiei. The first rehearsal is fixed for Friday evening next.

Oamaru Steeplechase Club. —At » meeting of the committee of tho Club, hold last night at the Empire Hotel, it was resolved "that tho Ground Committee bo authorised to dispose of the gates, at not less than L 45, tendora for which, it will bo seen, are culled for. Some other business of a routino nature was gone into, and tho committee separated. Mr F. W. 0. Grant, President, was in tho chair.

Tub Stbeplechasbs. — Tho railway authorities have made the following arrangements to suit tho convenience of tho public for tho •teeplechaso meeting on Thursday : — Single tickets will be issued nt all stations from Timaru southwards for Oamaru, available for tho return journey up to Monday, 29th inst. ; and a special train will be run to tho racecourse, leaving Oamaru at 11.30 a.m., at a faro of Is for the return trip. All ordinary trains will also atop opposite* the course.

St. Paul's Yodno Mkn's Association.— The usual weekly meeting of the above Association was held last night, the chair being occupied by Mr D. Fleming, VicePresident. Aftor the usual preliminary business, Mr G. Parker read a capital essay on " ''haraoter,' 1 following upon which was a live'y and on the wholo most favorable criticism, in the course of which the members expressed the pleasure with which they had listened to tho paper, and their obligations to the writer. The faceting then closed in the customary manner.
