THE OTEPOPO POSTMASTER.

(To tlio Editoi of tlio North Otaoo Times.) Sir — Some timo a<*o a resident in this district busied himself with an attempt to get Mr Stanton, the Postmaster and Telegraphist hero, into troublo, having drawn up a letter of complaint to the authorities to which, so utterly was his action unsympathisod with, he, I believe, did not succeed in getting a single signature besides his own. Tho fact ia that Mr Stanton has given general satisfaction, and is deservodly esteemed, and seeing what was going on, a number of residents forwarded a momorial to that effect. To this tho following reply has been received, which I hand to you for publication :—: — New Zealand Telegraph, Head Office, Wellington, July 10, 1878. Gentlemen— l tun directed by the lion, the Telegraph Commissioner to acknowledge tho receipt of your letter, expressing to him your entire satisfaction at the manner in which Mr Stanton, the officer in charge at Herbert, has performed liis duties, While conveying to you the thanks of tho Commissioner for tho expressions contained in your letter, I am to inform you that tho same will carry duo weight with him when the case of Mr .Stanton again come under his consideration. I have, &c., C. Lkmok, General Manager, A. Piric, Esq., and others, Otopopo, Those who know Mr Stanton will bo glad to soo, therefore, that tho act of his wonld-bo injurer has only resulted in his being brought under tho favorable notice of tlio head of tho department.
