A young man named Patrick Gordon, said to be heir to Ll0,000 year, was committed for trial this morning on three charges of larceny as a bailee, and obtaining money by a valueless cheque. The examination for Junior University Scholarships commenced to-day. Then are 25 competitors, 12 being Canterbury boys. The Darrells commenced a dramatic season at the Theatre Royal, last night. They were very well received.
