MELBOURNE.— The " Argns" of the! 29th ultimo reports : — '■ In the import market business to-dav has been quite at a atindatill. Scarcely an inquirj for any dreciiplion of merchandise lms been experienced, and there baa beon nothing whatever done at auction. Trade in breads! uffs is extremely inactive, there being no supply whutever offering. Fiour is wanted, and good old being scarce, very extreme rates are realised ; up to L14 hat been obtained for fine old Victorian, and LI 3 10s to L13 15s has been got for other brands, but: in either case only small lots were quitted. Fine old wheat is also mueh wanted, and a long price could now be got for good samples, New has not yet come forward. The quality of what has been seen is not •polien ot favorably, btim sort and nut suitable for baking purposes as yet. Outs are very slow, and without thn slightest inquiry. Maize is steady at 5s 31, and we do not hear of anything being offered under. Sugars are without animation ; the cargo of the Don Ricardo will be offered for sale on Thursday. By the Viscount Muoduff we hare circulars from Port Louis to 12th No* vember, but there is nothing new to refer to berond what we hare published last week. The u*util monthly telegrams Jliare, however, been received via Aden to 10th December, from which we learn that during the monlh 800 tons sugar had cleared for Melbourne, J find one Teasel of 400 tons was loading. No-' hing h«d cleared for Adelaide, but two small Teasels were londine j 1500 tons refinery sugar j had cleared for Sydney. About 500 tons were itoing forward to Dunedin and Christohuroh. There was no alteration in price, but it is stated now that the yield will not be up to 100,000 tons, instead of over, as was at one time anticipated. A telegram has been received from London, stating that instead of the shipments of bulk beer by the St. Osyth, for Melbourne, being so large as rumor hus put them down for some time back, the entire quantity shipped is only 450 hhds , 400 of which consUis of Bats' pale ale for the agents here. Trade sales of Henneuy's pale brandy. 1872, are reported at 7s 9d. Telegrams hare been received from London to 26th instant, stating that the market had an advancing tendency."

SYDNEY.— The "Sydney Morning Herald" of the 22nd ult. report* : — Buyers appear to hare deserted the import markets more suddenly than usual at this period. Increased facilities for transmitting supplies for the interior by rail prolonged the Christmas trade until much nearer the holidays thnn in previous years, and to this is attributable the apparent dullness with which the week has opened. There id no change to notice in the value of brradstuff*. Flour sells, in trade quantities, at LIO 15s to L12 ; wheat is nominitlly worth 5s to 6s 3d. The stock and share murkrt was very weak to-day. Sellers of some bank stocks were willing to accept a slight decline. New Zealand changed bunds at L17 6s 4d to L17 3s, and wire offered at 17*. New South Wales hud buyers at 47k , tellers at 481. «~
