Joan also gained six first and eecond prizes before leaving Scotland, and 15 first and second prizes sinco coming to this country. Jean's sire was the celebrated horse Justice ; grandsire, Mr Clark's Princo Albert, who gained the Highland Society's second prizo ut Glasgow in 1850 ; first at JBr'echin in 1851 ; and first at Hamilton in 1852 ; g.g. siro Clyde, allowed to be the best horse in Britain in his day. Comet's sire is the celebrated horse Marquis. Marquis was bred by John Brown, Esq., Preston Hall, Heidelberg, arid is allowed by competent judges to be the best 'horse ever ,bred in Victoria. Marquis has gained the following prizes : — When one-year-old, two first prizeB; at two-year-old, three first; when three-year-old, six first and two second, showing against imported horses; when four-year-old, showing against all comers, four first and one second ; and three days before being shipped ho carried off the first prize at the Grand National Show, at Geelong, | over twelre competitors. Iii Otago lie hits gained four first prizes, and six second. Marquis is by Prince Charlie, out of Mr Brown's celebrated mare, Old Jean. Old Jean gained f thirteen first prizes, and never was beaten in her day. Comet is rising five years old, is of a rich brown color, stands 16£ hands high, of grealb strength, compactly built, and of very superior action. He has proved himself a sure foalgetter. Young Hebo is a chestnut, '6 years old, 16 £ hands high, possesses immense bone and plenty of hair; was bre"d by Wm. Jones, Esq., Westwood, Tasmania. Young Hebo is got by the Lincolnshire Cart Stallion, Lincolnshire Herd, imported to Tasmania by W. R. Q. Kerraode, Esq. ; Lincolnshire Hero, bred by Mr, George Stahthrope ; Lincolnshire Hero by Young Honest John ; Lincolnshire Hero's dam was by Old Sampson, the property of, Mr Btyun, Leicestershire ; Old Sampson took altogether 21 First Prizes ; Young JHero'a dam. Blossom, by the inip'orted horse Matchless ; grand-dam, Rose, bred by the Messrs bimmohs, Oaks, Tasmania; Rose, by the imported horse Lincoln, imported by the late Dr Wilmore to Tasmania. Youn'g- Heeo, when shown as a yearling at the Northern Agricultural Show, against a number of 'colts, gained the First Prize. Yotraa Hebo; when a two-year-old, was shown at the Great Western Agricultural Show, arid took the first prize against all comers ; he also at the same time gained the First i?rize for being the best two-year-bid Lincoln Colt got by Lincolnshire Hero. Young Hasd, when a three-year-old, took the First Prize at the Waikouaiti and Shag Valley Agricultural and Pastoral Association. ■Young Hebo, when a four-year-old, gained First Prize at the Waikouaiti and Shag Valley Agricultural 'and Pastoral Association. He also, same time, gained the Gold Medal for b'eing the best animal of the draught stock on tho ground. Same year gained First Prize at the BlUeskin Agricultural and Pastoral Association.
