Colonial Secretary's Office, Wellington, 3rd February, 1871. IN compliance with recommendations contained in the Reports of the Flax Commission Committee, and of the Joint Committee on Colonial Industries, to the effect that " premiums not exceeding in the whole £500 shonld be granted for the encouragement of Sericiculture in the Colony," and that the development of certain industrial pursuits would often be best promoted by the offer of a bonus on production, the following Rewards are offered, subject to the undermentioned conditions : — A bonus of 50 per cent, on the value realised is offered for the production of the first £1,000 worth of cocoons of the Silkworm or egps of the Silkworm produced in the Colony, to be paid on quantities of not Iobs value than £50 or more than £100 produced by any ouc person. Ta any person or persons who shall manufacture, within the Colony, from New £ealand flax — For the first 500 reams of Printing Paper, a sum of £400 ; and a further sum of £250 for the first 500 reams of Packing Paper ; and the like sum for the first 10,000 yards of Snrim-cloth suitable for covering flat bales. Conditions. The required quantity of each article to bo completed before the 30th June, 1872. The weight of each ream of printing paper to be not less than 30 lbs., qf each ream of packing paper not less than 40 lbs., and of each piece of scrim-cloth of 100 yards in length and double width, not less than 30 lbs. The rewards will be paid ' on the certificate of an officer to be appointed by the Government that the above conditions have been complied with. W. GISBORNE.

"T^TOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that J_l Government Insurance and Annuities Offices, under the " Government Annuities Act, 1869," and " The New Zealand Government Insurance and Annuities Act, 1870," have been opened at OAMARU, WAIKOUAITI, and all the prinoipal Money Order Offices in the Colony. . - < ' The following advantages are secured by special provisions in the above-mentioned Acts : — 1. Up to a certain amount, Assurance Policies Iona fide effected by the Assured upon hia own life, and Endowment Policies, and Annuities purchased for the benefit of Wife or Children, are exempted from the operation of Bankruptcy Acts, and- from seizure under legal process. 2. Up to a certain amount, Married Women may effect Policies, and dispose of the money assured by will, as if single ; and such Policies are free from the debts and control of their husbands. 3. Insurances may be effected for the benefit of Wife and Children, with power to apportion amount ; and such insurance is to be free from the claim of creditors, to the extent of £2000. All persons wishing to obtain Life Insurances, Endowments, Annuities, immediate or deferred, or other advantages under the Acts, will receive every information and the necessary forms on application at any of tha above-named offices. NEW ZEALAND 'GOVERNMENT LIFE INSURANCE AND ANNUITIES.

THE Government having heen empowered by special Acts of the. Legis* lature io enter into Contiaots for Insurances on Lives, and for thp grant of Annuities and Endowments, are now prepared to execute any of the usual cuntiaets dependent upon the contingencies of human life. The following advantages are. presented as deservintr of public attention, and especially of the Workin Classes : — 1. The tables of Premiums in Ml the branches are considerably less than in any other office in New Zealund. 2. All transactions and Powers of Attorney and other documents are free ot Stamp Duty and all taxation. 3. No charge is made beyond the purchase money or premium, paid quarterly, halfyearly, or annually. 4. Fourteen, or twenty-one . days of grace, according to the intervals of payment, are allowed beyond the due dates ; and should the assured die during these periods, the policy will still be valid. 5. Surrender values are granted on the whole ~or any part of a contract which has endured for five years. , 6. Residence is permitted in any part of the "Australasian. Colonies or Europe, and premiums may always be paid on the due dates at the nearest Money Order Office. 7. Insurances effected for the benefit of and settled on Wife or Children are free, to the extent of L2,000, from the claims of Creditors. 8. The Consolidated Revenue of the Colony is liable for all claims, in the event of the monies received (which are safely invested at compound interest) at any time being insufficient to meet demands, thus affording the best security to tke Assured. The fullest information can be obtained on application at any Money Order Office or to any Government Schoolmaster, or to CECIL ' Y.
