Wellington, February 5th. The Provincial Council election ye«terdav resulted as follows :—Crawford, 294 ; Croft, 169. The G-OTernor and Dr Hector left in the Clio yesterday morning for the West Coast of the Middle Island. The ship Celaeno arrived to-day from London, with 60 families of Swedish immigrants. Dr Viard, the Roman Catholic Bishop of Wellington, and six her.

February 7th. The polling for the City election took place to-day, and resulted in the return of Messrs Pcarco and Hunter. The following are the figures :—Pearce, 379 ; Hunter, 366 ; Travers, 345 ; Richmond, 339 ;

JtSorlase, 78 ; Martin, 33. Nelson, February 6th. The poll for the Nelson City election took place today, and resulted in the return of Messrs Curtis and Lightband. The numbers were as follows:—Curtis, 273 ; Lightband, 211 ; Richmond, 159 ; Shephard, 99. Great efforts were made by Mr Curtia'a party to secure Mr Richmond's return.

Westpobt, February 6th. The Buller election took place to-day, and resulted in the return of Mr E. J. O'Conor. The figures were ai follows :— O'Conor, 534 3 Donne, 468 j Yardly, 28.

February 3rd. Mr T. B. Gillies addressed the electors last niglit. There were about 600 persons present. An almost unanimous Tote of confidence in Mr Gillies was carried. At the declaration of the poll for the Eden election yesterday, Mr Croighton denounced Mr M'Lean for interfering with the electors, and said he would bring the matter forward in the Assembly .

February 7th The dividends declared thia week by several of the mining companies at the Thames are very large, and have revived the market. The selling price, ex dividend, of the Caledonia Co's shares, is L15; of the Thames Mining Co's, L3 ; All Nations, L4 ; Golden Crown, L250. The amount of the dividends just paid by these companies is L12.55O. Mr Charles Mathews is expected to arrive in the Wonti* Wonga from Sydney. H« will appear on Mondaj night, and leave on Tuesday for San Francisco.

February 8th. Mr Commissioner Branigan is suffering from the effects of a sunstroke he received during his late journey from Tnupo and Napier. He goes to Wellington to-morrow, in the Luna, temporarily invalided.

Invekcabguli/, February 5th. Mr Dillon Bell addressed the electors in the Theatre last night. The house was crowded, and Mr Bell met with a favorable reception. He commenced by making a series of apologies for his apparent neglect of his constituents since his election, but said that he had rendered them good Borneo in the Assembly, and if elected would give them an account of his stewardship at the end of each session. The Hundreds Act was not his in any sense, but was due entirely to the action taken by the Waete Lands Committee in consequence of a petition from the Clntha settlers for Huudreda. In proof of his own disinterestedness, he stated that he had voluntarily given, without compensation, the best part of hi8 own run at Shag Valley to the Government for settlement, and gave the settlers liberty besides to craze their cattle on the run without Davment.

NaPIBE, .February 7th. Mahi and Hare Tauteka have met Mr Orinond. They are determined to support the Government in carrying out road works throughout the interior of the island. Accounts received from the Waikato, via Taupo, are conflicting and indefinite. The Star of the South made a very successful trip yesterday. There were 50 invited guests on board on the occasion.

Lawrence, February 7th. The nomination for the Tuapeka General Assembly election took place to-day. Mr J. 0. Brown was proposed by Mr Clayton, and seconded by Mr B. M'Swiney. Mr W. H. Cutten was proposed by Mr John Donovan, and seconded by Mr James M'Kinlay. The show of hands was as follows : — Brown, 21 j Cutten, 6. A poll was demanded for Mr Cutten.

JNEW -Flysiotjth, ueDruary t>td, via Patea, February, 8th. Mr Parris has returned. The natives in the south of the Province are all quietly inclined. Te Whiti is to hold a meeting in March, when it is thought that permission will be granted to erect the telegraph on his land.

Timaetj, February 8th. Mr Parker lias been returned for Gladstone by a majority of 16.

Clyde, February 8th. Mr T. L. Shepherd has been elected representative for f}he Dunstan district, in the General ABBembly, by a majority of 61.
