MUNICIPAL COUNCIL.

The usual fortnightly meeting of this body, was held at the Council Chambers, on Wednesday evening. Present — His Worship the Mayor (in the chair), Councillors Falconer, Grave, Headland, Mainland, Rule, and Young. The minutes of the last regular meeting, and the special meeting, held on Wednesday, the 25th. inst., were read and confirmed. The outward correbpondence having -been read were approved. A letter from the Provincial Treasurer, was read, stating, that the sum of L415 had been paid into the Bank, aud placed to the credit of the Council. An application was read from Mrs Mary Ann Wansbrough, for lease of a Municipal section in Coquet-street, in Sec. 6 block V., at an annual rental of IA Cr. Falconer proposed, and Cr. Mainland seconded, "That the application be not entertained, as the upspt price wus L7 10." — Carried. Cr. Falconer presented a list of the maps, plans, &c, now in possession of the Council. Tho following accounts were passed for payment : — Pay-sheet, L6 2s., and L200 for sinking fund. Cr. Mainland moved, and Cr. Young seconded, " That plans and specifications be prepared, and tenders called for the formation of that portion of Wansbeck-street, between Hull-street and its junction with Severn-street." Tho motion was supported by Crs. Headland, Young, and Grra\e, and opposed by Crs. Fa'coner, Rule, and Thomson. A discussion of some length chiefly as to tho propriety of calling for tenders at the present time when harvesting is going oft, and that it would be better to leave it over for a month or two. All agreed that the work was very necessary, and should be done as soon as possible. It was ultimately resolved, on the motion of Cr. Falconer, seconded by Cr. Thomson, " That the motion of Cr. Mainland stand over for 6ix weeks.
