The prisoners were brought before the magistrates, when Sub-inspector Hannell proved that, after being duly cautioned, the girl admitted that sho was the mother of the child, and stated that it had died three days after its birth ; that, being anxious to conceal all evidence ef her shame, she put its dead body on a fire, where it charred dnring- the night ; »nd that having mixed the xemains with the ashes of the fire, she deposited them in the ashpit. Dr. Scraggn proved that the girl had recently been delivered of a child, and that the ashes which he examined contained animal remains in * charred condition. The magistrates remanded the prisoners.
