ANOTHER ATTEMPTED MURDER.

On Saturday afternoon a horrible ontrage was oommitted in Chanoerj-lane by ft maa named John Jermyn, who is beiisTed to be insane. It appears that for some years post Jermyn has been employed at the Patent Offioe, Chancery-lane. On Saturday afternoon Mr. Tomlinion was in his ofBoe, and asked Jermyn to get him some luncheon, and Jermyn returned to Mr. Toolinson a few minutes before two o'olook. He then, without uttering a word, took a speoial constable's staff oat of his pocket and strnok Mr. Tomlinson about the head with it sereral times. Immediately after he threw the staff into a corner of the room and then rushed towards the window, whioh was open. Jumping upon the sill he leaped oat, bat before he reaohed the ground oanght hold of the rain-water pipe and slid down. He then ran into i, water-oloaet, where he wu dirorered by William Smith, a porter, cutting his throat with a penknife. Be instantly oanght hold of him and carried him to the hospital, where it wm aaoertained that he bad infliotsd a wound opoo his throat so Barer* that the jogolar vein was separated, and that then was little ehanoa of taring hii life. On Satorday night his wife called at the hospital, and slated that two years »fo her hosk-and fell down a flight of stairs and in* jnred his head. Sinoe that time he had frequently shown signs of insanity. He nerer had any ill-feeling towards. or misunderstanding with Mr. Tomlinson. The wound whioh Jermyn has mad* with ft penknife across bis throat has completely eerered the windpipe and the jugular Ycin. Mr. Tomlinson is omt of danger.
