A VISION OF THE NEW DOCK.

(To the Editor of the Oamabu Times.) Sib,— Ab I was feeling vexed at Mr "Wilson for neb describing more fully his ideas on the boundaries of the dock for all kinds of shipping, I felfc as if his mantle had dropped on my shoulders, and I saw plainly delineated on the ground, now called the Esplanade, what I will endearor to explain iu writing. I «aw that the canal from the landing-place took nearly a straight course towards Mr France's store, leaving space for stores along' Arun-street, and taking a gentle curve towards Tyne-street — Wansbeck-street crossed by a beautiful stone bridge, under which the canal boats passed, laden with the good things of this life, on their way to the Waitaki country. I observed also that the aforesaid dock had granaries built on the space along the seaside, now occupied by the waters of bocb creeks, nearly all the length of the dock and basin or about 80 feet from the lagoon to about 250 feet from the canal near Arun-street. On this 250 feet was founded in great perfection the two powerful pier-hi>ads. The one on the north side was protected against the force of the waves by being carried off with a gentle fall. To let your i eaders have a vivid perception of this part, I may observe that I saw boys amusing themselves by bathing on it. The other pier-head was quite a modern piece of masonry, but of excellent workmanship Yours, &c., Publico P.S. —I will endeavor to complete the picture, if your readers wish. October 27th, 1868.
